Searching for pages that contain a particular URL

Thanks Polly - I had already tried Google but it was giving me a result I didn't believe.
Basically a student has reported a broken link, but not said what page the link was contained in the link: search in google and got no hits so had (wrongly) assumed that search didn't work. The tried it with a link I knew existed and only got the page at the link I was testing (which seemed particularly odd as that page definitely doesn't link to itself). Clearly I lost faith too soon.
User probably found the link in own bookmarks or print material (or something google can't crawl)
Thanks for tracking the doco down.
Cheers, Alan.

Hi Alan,
Seems to still work in Google too - from their advanced search tips page:
>Using the link: operator, you can find pages that link to a certain
>page. For example, you can find all the pages that link to google.com.
>link:google.com
>Tip: You can also search for links to specific pages, like google.com/images.

Hope that's what you were looking for?
Polly
p.s. I remember the coal-fired ENIAC days! :)
