The joint ALA-SAA-AAM committee on libraries, archives, and museums (CALM)
is sponsoring a session on linked data at the 2012 ALA annual conference in

The linked data movement is an effort to develop best practices for
publishing and connecting structured data on the Web. This panel will
examine efforts to create an environment in which all cultural heritage
institutions can more easily contribute to the open Web.

Speakers:

   - Martin Kalfatovic, Asst. Director, Digital Services Division,
   Smithsonian Institution
   Martin will introduce the concept of linked data and will speak briefly
   about the Smithsonian's efforts to build linked data into its online
   collections.
   - Patricia Harpring, Managing Editor, Getty Vocabulary Program, Getty
   Research Institute
   Patricia will talk about the Getty Vocabularies and their role in the
   linked data movement.
   - Rachel Frick, Director, Digital Library Federation at CLIR
   Rachel will report on the ALA LITA/ACLTS preconference "Creating Library
   Linked Data: What Catalogers and Coders Can Build " and will discuss the
   DLF's work on linked data.
   - Richard Wallis, Technology Evangelist, OCLC
   Richard will describe the recent addition of linked data to OCLC's
   WorldCat and the efforts to extend schema.org to make it more useful for
   the cultural heritage community.
