POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
*** Title: Head of Library Systems and Technology:
The Corriher-Linn-Black Library at Catawba College seeks an innovative, collaborative and service-oriented librarian to manage the library's systems and provide vision and leadership in library technology planning and implementation. The goal of this position is to find innovative ways to use technology to provide patron access to library materials and services, improve library functions and workflows, integrate library materials and services with other curricular services on campus, and otherwise assist the library in fulfilling its mission of service to students and faculty.
The position is salaried, non-tenured, and reports directly to the Library Director.
Responsibilities:
• Incorporate appropriate design principles, information architectures, coding standards, and emerging technologies in developing and integrating the library's web site and other systems
• Provide leadership and responsibilities in the identification, assessment, and implementation of emerging technologies that further the library’s mission and increase and enhance access to library resources and services
• Manage and support library staff in using the library's ILS (OCLC Worldshare Management Systems)
• Coordinate and work with campus IT department in managing library computers and printers
• Design and carry out ongoing assessment of web site usability and user needs and interests
• Coordinate and support library staff in authoring web content
• Provide technology training as necessary to staff, students and faculty as needed
• Actively explore new technologies and make recommendations for their integration
• Participate on internal and campus committees as required
• Act as liaison to academic departments
• Provide reference and library instruction as required
Minimum Qualifications:
• Masters degree from an ALA-accredited program
• Proficiency in web authoring, information presentation, organization and design, with demonstrated experience with HTML & CSS
• Demonstrated experience in developing and/or implementing database-driven Web applications, using PHP, Perl & MySQL
• High level of technical expertise regarding web technologies and their application in libraries
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, plan, coordinate and implement projects
• Effective interpersonal, oral, written and online communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team and to work with diverse faculty, staff and students
Preferred Qualifications:
• 2-3 years of demonstrated experience developing web sites and web site applications in an academic library setting
• Familiarity with open source applications
• Experience successfully managing a variety of library-related computer systems and applications such as WordPress, SubjectsPlus, etc.
• Familiarity with research design and implementation of library technology initiatives such as online learning resources, Web 2.0 applications, wikis, blogs and other innovative technology projects
• Evidence of interest and ability in applying innovative technologies to enhance library services
• Strong understanding of accessibility and usability issues
• Familiarity with graphic design principles
