POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Position Title:            Integrated Library System Administrator
Requisition #:           12072
            Classified, Full-time Position
            Open to the public
Department:  Poudre River Public Library District
Salary Range:          $4,994 - $6,968 monthly.  Salaries are paid biweekly.
Closing Date:            June 29, 2012
Selection Process:               Applications will be reviewed and selected candidates will be interviewed.             Post-offer background check and drug test required.


Summary:  The Integrated Library System Administrator is responsible for development, implementation, support and administration of the Library District's integrated library system supporting a variety of services including circulation, cataloging, acquisitions, serials, reports, external interface function, and public access.  Work is performed with considerable independent judgment and initiative.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
*           Configure and manage the efficient operation of the Library District's integrated library system hardware and software including performance, security, administration, maintenance, and upgrades to meet Library District requirements.  Maintain integrity of databases on the system and interfaces between the library's ILS and 3rd party products.
*           Research, analyze, evaluate, plan, test, troubleshoot, design, coordinate and implement system migrations, upgrades, enhancements, new features and functionality of the ILS hardware and software and related peripherals and products.
*           Stay current on best practices, procedures, and trends in the ILS field through attendance at conferences, participation in organizations, and networking.
*           Work with vendors for ongoing maintenance, development and support concerning features and functions the library requires to maintain or enhance services.  This includes vendors for network services, ILS, email, automated materials handling, and RFID systems.
*           Train Library District staff to efficiently and effectively use the ILS software.
*           Provide leadership and supervision of Systems Administration Department in absence of Library IT Manager and as needed.
*           Gather statistics from the system on use and status of databases for daily, weekly, monthly and yearly reports.  Compile and present statistics in formats easy for District staff to interpret.
*           Provide support for technology projects assigned to the Library District's Systems Administration Department.  Contribute to efforts to complete projects on time and within budget.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This position is not responsible for direct supervision or performance of any employees.
*           In absence of Library IT Manager, provides leadership and direct supervision of Systems Administration staff
*           Project management of Library IT projects may involve directing other staff members to perform tasks

Qualifications:  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
*           Thorough knowledge of ILS hardware and software with ability to analyze library processes and translate into systems requirements and specifications

*           Fundamental knowledge of all hardware (client, server, peripherals) related to integrated library systems and the ability to configure and manage for efficient library operations
*           Thorough knowledge of standard library operating procedures and terminology
*           Ability to quickly learn operating systems, hardware, software and technical procedures using documentation, training, customer service support
*           Knowledge of library information systems and emerging technologies such as virtualization and cloud computing as it relates to ILS administration
*           Working knowledge of automated library circulation systems with ability to configure software and peripherals to support efficient workflows
*           Knowledge of SIP-based third-party products and ability to configure and manage interfaces between these products and the ILS
*           Knowledge of library catalog organization and indexing, cataloging and collections practices and procedures, in-depth understanding of MARC formats, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), emedia formats, etc.
*           Working knowledge of webpage design and mobile technologies to manage the web interfaces of the library catalog databases
*           Ability to assess, organize, and resolve training needs and to explain complex technical procedures to staff and public with patience and thoroughness
*           Ability to provide understandable interpretations of procedures to end users
*           Ability to analyze, research and solve technical problems using initiative and vendor technical support
*           Ability to query the library's database using the query language supported by the vendor
*           Excellent project management, organizational, analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
*           Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, to set and meet deadlines and to adapt to new and changing situations, priorities and technologies
*           Ability to participate at a high level on other department projects
*           Excellent proficiency in computer use including internet, email, Microsoft Office products and help desk software
*           Ability to learn and become proficient in functions required to perform job duties, working independently or as part of a team to complete tasks as assigned

Education and Experience:
*           Bachelor's degree in Management Information Science, computer science, or related discipline or commensurate experience.
*           At least 3 years of prior experience as an ILS administrator in a library, preferably a public library.

Language Skills:
*           Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals and procedures
*           Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
*           Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, customers and the general public

Reasoning Ability:
*           Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
*           Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

Physical Demands:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee sometimes is required to stand; and walk.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.


Work Environment:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Normal office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Occasionally the job requires working for short periods of time in a small server room which is loud and cramped.
