Job Description
The Sandia National Laboratories Information Management Solutions organization is seeking an innovative, highly motivated, energetic and forward-thinking Computer Scientist to provide support for its Technical Library applications.  The selected candidate will work closely with the Library Digital Projects Librarian, as well as Library staff and management to contribute to providing innovative technologies in the delivery of information and to ensure that Library applications meet the information needs of the Laboratories.  Representative tasks include responding to and troubleshooting technical issues, installing and deploying existing application upgrades and supporting the Digital Projects Librarian and Library staff in investigating, exploring, developing and deploying Library technologies.  The successful candidate will be self-directed, independently motivated and have an aptitude for integrating and supporting new technologies, as well as maintaining and improving legacy systems.  This is a ground-floor opportunity to contribute to meeting the needs of Sandia's researchers and management through the deliberate use and deployment of technology as a research and reporting tool.

Required
Bachelor degree in computer science or related field, with a minimum of at least two-years administering and supporting Library system environments, applications and technologies.   A Masters degree in library or information science, with at least one-year experience administering and supporting library systems, applications and technologies may substitute for the computer science degree.  Interest in the application of new technologies within a Library service environment, as well as knowledge of trends in the delivery of Library information and demonstrable experience in integrated library systems is essential.  Experience working with MARC records and bibliographic databases is required, as is some programming experience in UNIX, JavaScript, HTML/XHTML/XML, CSS, PHP and relational databases such as Oracle or MSSQL.  Software troubleshooting skills is a must.

Teamwork and leadership capabilities are required, along with strong interpersonal and communication skills.  The successful candidate must have the ability to take initiative and to be self directed and motivated.  Candidate must be able to demonstrate their project management, analytical, and problem solving skills, with an aptitude for complex and detailed work.  Strong service orientation to customers and to co-workers is a must.  Ability to acquire a U.S. Department of Energy security clearance is required.  U.S. Citizenship normally required. Desired
Knowledge of and experience with the SirsiDynix Horizon library automation system.  Experience with SFX, MetaLib and Verde.  Working knowledge of ILLiad, and familiarity of the Infotrieve Virtual Library 2.0+ document-delivery system.  Experience with making information access as intuitive as possible for the "do-it-myself" researcher as well as familiarity with information push technologies, such as personalized search is desired.  Experience in and knowledge of SharePoint development and deployment is a plus.

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.

Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate DOE security clearance if required for a position. Sandia is a Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory; as such, many of our jobs require a DOE security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.  If this position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance, U.S. citizenship and employee eligibility for clearance processing will be required at the time of hire.
