NC LIVE is seeking candidates with a passion for helping people find,
use, and create information that improves the communities and lives of
North Carolinians. We need your enthusiasm, ideas, and your unique

Responsibilities

The Online Service Librarian is a part of a eight-person team of 
librarians and information technology professionals focused on raising 
the bar of digital library services across the entire spectrum of 
libraries in North Carolina. The successful candidate will:

? Manage member library relations, acting as a liaison and advocate on 
behalf of libraries and their customers to build relationships with 
content and service providers and other partners

? Shepherd product development from idea through implementation, 
including requirement creation, prototype testing, and product roll-out 
and support

? Assess information needs, plan for the development and acquisition of 
content and services, and monitor/manage usage on behalf of member libraries

? Provide digital library technology consulting services for member 
libraries

? Create and manage opportunities for customization and personalization 
of content and services for member libraries and their customers

? Monitor and facilitate the resolution process of technical issues 
related to NC LIVE sponsored content and services

? Track and identify trends in use and usage behavior to build training 
and awareness initiatives

? Develop and enhance web site content and applications that enable 
better information integration into library and user web sites

? Facilitate NC LIVE advisory committees in order to better understand 
organizational challenges and opportunities, and implement solutions 
that work for NC LIVE and individual member libraries

? Support ongoing NC LIVE activities through interaction with and 
outreach to NC LIVE?s communities of interest

Qualifications

Required:
ALA-accredited MLS, MLIS, or equivalent advanced degree in Information 
Science.
Education and/or experience with web-based library reference sources, 
current web authoring applications, and relational databases
Familiarity with relevant web design and technical standards, hardware 
and software, web-based applications, IP addressing, communications 
protocols, firewalls, and proxy servers
Demonstrated ability to effectively listen, speak, write, and 
communicate with colleagues and customers in ways that build confidence 
and satisfaction with individual and organizational performance
Relevant customer service experience in a library, educational 
institution, or other knowledge-based company
Proven interest in and desire to learn evolving technologies valuable to 
libraries and their community of users
Willingness to travel to enable interaction with member libraries and 
their users, as well as engage with people and organizations with 
similar goals and objectives. .

Preferred:
Experience in more than one type of library
Demonstrated ability to develop web-ready applications, applets, and 
plug-ins for libraries, educational institutions, or community 
organizations
Experience in web design and usability standards and web-based applications
Education and/or experience working with digital collections and 
metadata standards a plus
Demonstrated ability to be an effective trainer or presenter

NC LIVE is a statewide collaborative venture among the nearly 200 public 
and academic libraries in North Carolina. Making up its ranks are the 
University of North Carolina System, North Carolina Community College 
System, the public libraries of North Carolina serving all 100 counties, 
and North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities. NC LIVE 
provides the people of North with equal access to online library and 
information solutions that support their education, enhance statewide

Salary and Benefits

Salary is very competitive, commensurate with education and experience. 
Position is non-tenure track faculty at the rank of Librarian. Benefits 
include: 24 days vacation, 12 days sick leave; State of NC comprehensive 
major medical insurance, and state, TIAA/CREF, or other retirement 
options. Additional and optional dental, life, disability, deferred
