Web4Lib, Usability4Lib (apologies for cross-posting) --
This message is for those who have issues with library jargon, confusing or
vague terminology, or inconsistent labels for the same thing on various
parts of your website.
"Issues" means multiple people involved, with different ideas of which terms
to use.
I'd very much like to hear about libraries that address these problems with:
* Standards (required terminology)
* Guidelines (recommended terminology)
* Using terminology on one part of your site as a benchmark for other parts.
* Basing terminology on some published list or guide.
* Sharing results from usability studies to encourage changes in
terminology.
* or ... ???
If your library uses such strategies for printed publications, that would be
relevant also.
I'm interested in both how you approach the problem and what the
required/recommended terms are.
This will help us at UC Berkeley. I'll also be glad to summarize for the
list and (if the responses are substantial) post a summary on "Library Terms
That Users Understand"
