Consortium Librarian
 
JOB TITLE: Consortium Librarian
CLASSIFICATION:Librarian
REPORTS TO:Deputy Director of Support Services

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Support Services,
assumes primary responsibility for managing and organizing support
requirements for the Kansas City Public Library Consortium and other
consortia agencies.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

- Manages and organizes support requirements for members
- Directs and coordinates the planning and projection of contract
activities and oversees contract compliance
- Develops and implements marketing plan to attract organizations to the
consortium
- Determines resource requirements, work order costs and monitors work
order progress to ensure timely delivery of services to members
- Acts as ITS representative at Council, Public Services and Technical
Services meetings
- Acts as a liason between member libraries and KCPL departments
- Acts as a liason between Database vendors and members
- Oversees ongoing training and develops user-based documentation for
members
- Promotes the Library's consoria services and prepares service quotes
for prospective members
- Approves purchase orders for service and hardware/software requests
from member libraries
- Assumes responsiblity for managing member accounts and coordinating
the billing process with Finance department
- Develops policies and procedures for Consortium-related activities
- Makes regular visits to the various consortium sites to determine
member needs
- Maintains familiarity with basic ITS operations
- Performs other related duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

- Experience with automated library systems is required
- Work experience with PCs, Microsoft Windows, databases and
spreadsheets
- Experience managing support requirements in a multi-type system
- Knowledge of the SIRSI library automation system
- Experience organizing, directing and coordinating the planning and
projection of contract activities
- Experience determining resource requirements, work order costs and
monitoring work order progress
- Experience preparing service quotes
- Experience in promoting library automation services
- Knowledge of general library operations
- Experience designing and implementing library automation training
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and must have the
ability to interact with non-technical staff and work in a team oriented
environment
- Demonstrated excellence and commitment to customer service
- Must be a self-starter and able to handle several projects
simultaneously
- Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with all levels of users

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MLS degree and significant computer and library experience or the
equivalent combination of education and experience. Travel is required.
