JOB TITLE: Web Developer
CLASSIFICATION: Librarian I
REPORTS TO: Information Technology Services (ITS) Director

Job Summary

Working with the Web and Database Administrator and the ITS Director,
the Web Developer helps coordinate, develop, and maintain the Library's
web presence. This person helps incorporate appropriate design
principles, usability guidelines and tests, coding standards and
emerging technologies into the Library's various websites and web-based
projects. This person creates original content for the website,
maintains already existing content, and edits staff-submitted content
into a "web-ready" format.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Works with content providers in different departments, branches,
outside agencies, etc., to identify and develop content suitable for our
Internet and Intranet sites.
2. Develops web resources at the Library, identifies possible content
areas to add or update 3. Applies advanced technologies to support new
models for integrating physical and digital collections and services 4.
Formulates and monitors policies, procedures and standards relating to
web and database development.
5. Monitors changes in technology and software to ensure
state-of-the-art support for web development 6. Assists in setting
organizational web and database development strategies 7. Assists in
training library employees in the use of web development tools 8.
Provide additional services as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

1. MLS from an ALA-accredited institution 2. Demonstrated experience
creating and maintaining websites 3. Demonstrated experience using HTML,
ColdFusion, and CSS 4. Ability to work on multiple projects with
shifting priorities 5. Ability to learn new technologies very quickly 6.
Excellent oral and written communication skills 7. Strong public
services orientation 8. Demonstrated ability to interact successfully
with all levels of staff and public and work in a fast-paced,
team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications

1. Working knowledge of PHP
2. Knowledge of web architecture principles with an understanding of
graphic design elements 3. Experience in usability testing 4.
Familiarity with Content Management Systems and institutional
repositories such as DSpace, ContentDM, Drupal, etc.
