The Rutgers University Libraries are pleased to announce that spaces are
still available
for a thought-provoking symposium, "Privacy in Cyberspace: New Challenges
for Higher Education,"
a full day symposium featuring Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the
Electronic
Privacy Information Center, on March 18, 2002, in the
Scholarly Communication Center in Alexander Library. This symposium will
include expert panelists from business, government, libraries
organizations, and academia. The panelists will explore such areas as
student and
library records, privacy policies, desktop and network security,
e-commerce, and online education.
The symposium will address these questions: How do current concerns
about consumer privacy on the Internet relate to higher education? As
colleges and universities use technology to improve their internal
operations and to enhance educational and research opportunities, what
issues do they face and what steps must they take to preserve the
personal privacy of students, faculty, and staff?
Full program and registration information for this symposium is now
available at the following URL:
http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rul/news/2002_02_privacy.shtml
The symposium is being organized by the Rutgers University Libraries in
cooperation with Rutgers University Computing Services, the Office of
the University Registrar, the Office of the Vice President for
Continuous Education and Outreach, and the Professional Development
Program of the School of Communication, Information, and Library Studies
and is supported with a generous grant from the Friends of the Rutgers
University Libraries.
I invite you to register for this conference now. I also ask that you
share this announcement with academic departments and administrative
offices throughout your university. Please feel free, as well, to forward
this to your colleagues at other universities.
The registration deadline is March 12, 2002.
