Instructor, Reference and Learning Resources Librarian, position number
88040, Kapiolani CC, tenure track, general funds, 11-month, full-time,
beginning approx. 09/02, pending position clearance and availability
of funds.
Duties: Provides general reference service to library patrons and
assists them in the use of print and electronic reference resources;
participates in the library's instructional programs; develops
information resources in support of course competencies and desired
learning outcomes; creates print and online instructional guides and
tutorials for library research; assumes a leadership role in the
selection and management of electronic resources and services,
including working with other members of the library staff to
integrate new information technologies into the library's strong
public services mission; investigates new services as they are
available and works with the Reference Department and other
appropriate departments and subject specialists in proposing new
purchases; develops policies and procedures for managing electronic
resources and services; arranges formal instructional sessions
presented by vendors to staff and/or end-users; coordinates the
solicitation or creation of publicity and training materials and their
subsequent distribution; solicits, maintains and disseminates use
statistics and management reports; keeps current with emerging issues
and state of the art technologies.
Provides leadership in designing library services to remote users,
including distance-learning students; serves as a primary Library
liaison to individuals and groups at the college and system level
responsible for academic support of distance learning; develops and
maintains online resources in support of distance learning as well as
web sites for specific distance courses and provides technical support
for students in those courses. Provides leadership for the ongoing
development and management of the Library's web site including
creation and maintenance of informational and instructionally-related
web pages.
Coordinates the library's Intrasystem Loan operation. Undertakes
additional responsibilities and assignments to include the support
and development of learning resources as needs evolve.
Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in Library & Information
Science from an ALA-accredited program.
Desirable qualifications: Two (2) years experience in bibliographic
instruction and reference services. Experience with Windows-based
microcomputers and applications; demonstrated competence in use of
HTML and basic web site development. Experience in the creation and
delivery of library services for distance learners; current
experience in the use of course management software and remote
presentation applications, particularly courseware for web delivery;
experience in planning, teaching, and assessing instruction sessions
in an electronic environment; experience creating web pages and other
advanced web applications; knowledge of HTML, Java Script, XML, SQL;
experience with OCR and pdf software; experience with image
manipulation programs and web design software; experience in the
provision of document delivery services; familiarity with using
statistical data to facilitate managerial decision-making; ability and
willingness to work in a collaborative, multicultural,
service-oriented environment; current knowledge and skills in the use
of electronic and traditional print resources and services; effective
training/teaching skills in group and one-on-one settings; highly
effective oral and written communication skills; knowledge of current
trends in library services and information technologies;
troubleshooting/diagnostic experience with hardware, software and
networking; experience with database, spreadsheet and presentation
software packages such as MS Access, Excel and PowerPoint.
Pay range: $3,515/month minimum. Salary commensurate with education
and experience.
