      CONTRIBUTIONS TO INFORMATION SCIENCE AWARD PROGRAM 2001

		"Trends in Information Organization" 
			by Dr. Elaine Svenonius

The Los Angeles Chapter of the American Society for Information 
Science & Technology is pleased to announce this year's recipient of 
the Contributions to Information Science Award:  Dr. Elaine Svenonius.

Elaine Svenonius, Professor Emerita, taught cataloging, 
classification and indexing at UCLA from 1983 until 1994, after which 
she was a visiting professor in Brazil and at the University of 
Maryland.  Her recent publications are The Intellectual  Foundation 
of Information Organization  (MIT, 2000) and, together with Dorothy 
McGarry, Seymour Lubetzky: Writings on the Classical Art of 
Cataloging  (Libraries Unlimited, 2001).  In August, she was the 
keynote speaker at the Extreme Markup Languages 2001 Conference in 
Montreal.

Directions to the UCLA Faculty Center:
The Faculty Center is located at 480 Charles Young Drive, Los 
Angeles, CA 90095. From the 405 freeway take the Sunset Blvd. exit 
and go east. Turn right on Hilgard Avenue then turn right on 
Westholme (the second traffic light) and enter the UCLA campus. The 
Faculty Center is the first building on your right. Drive up to the 
parking and information kiosk to your right and ask for parking 
directions. A one-day parking pass is $6.00.
