Department of Public Libraries, 99 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, Maryland 
Employee will provide information technology leadership and vision for the
library system including current applications and future trends. Employee
will be responsible for the identification, investigation, purchase,
installation and effective use of IT applications for the Department, as
well as ensuring the effective operation of the Libraries' SIRSI integrated
library system, WAN, LAN and software applications. Employee will be
responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the classification,
cataloging, and preparation of library materials and acquisition of
materials operations. Duties include: coordinating and directing the
technical aspects of circulation operations, online bibliographic functions,
ordering procedures, management reports, facilitating access to online
resources and various databases and the planning, directing, supervising and
evaluating of the operations of the Division of Technical Services to
provide library support services - automation, cataloging, material
preparation, ordering and receipt of materials - for use of customers and
staff. 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree. Six years of experience in the
planning, design, development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance
of various computer systems and information technology applications related
to public libraries or similar information clearinghouse operations, two
years of which must have been in a project manager or project leader
capacity. Equivalency applies. 
SELECTION PROCESS: The resumes, cover letters, and Resume Attachment Forms

will be reviewed for training, education, and experience in the following
areas: Demonstrated experience providing leadership in and managing
information technology applications, preferably in a public library system.
Continuing education or training in a computer related field. Excellent
communication skills in all modes. Excellent facilitation, meeting
management, and negotiating skills Principles, practices, and procedures of
public libraries As a result of this process, candidates may be placed on an
Eligible List with a rating of "Outstanding", "Well Qualified," or
"Qualified," as appropriate. Selected candidate will be required to
successfully pass a medical history review prior to appointment.
