  THE POSITION:

  To perform advanced professional public library work in directing and coordinating a specialized library section and to assist with special projects as necessary.

  REQUIREMENTS:

  * Possession of a Master's Degree, or equivalent, in Library Science or a related field from an accredited college or university.

  * Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional public library experience, including one year of supervisory experience.

  KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  Knowledge of principles and practices of professional library work, including advanced methods, practices and techniques of library classification and cataloging; reference methods, techniques and sources used in library work; materials and services available in public libraries; principles of supervision, including employee training and performance evaluation; principles and practices of budget preparation and administration and library automation and retrieval systems.  Ability to supervise the activites and operations of a specialized library program section; learn City library policies and procedures; plan, develop and implement library programs and activities to stimulate reader interest; assist library patrons in response to reference and related library questions; perform technical library tasks and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the cours of work.
