(Couldn't resist the allure of an entire subject line composed of
acronyms - it just seemed so 'web' >;)
I'd like to talk to someone with more experience than my own in
enabling server-side includes (SSI) on an NT 4.0 machine running
Internet Information Server 4 (IIS).
I understand how the includes work - in fact can make them work
just fine. The question I have relates to applying an SSI include to
add a simple header file across an existing web site of several
thousand pages. Changing all the file names and links to the shtm
extension just ain't gonna happen.
One can configure the IIS to send all documents with the htm (or
html) extension through the server side include parser. This works,
but I wonder what the performance and security issues will be if I
implement such a change. (I should add that 95% of the pages are
small static simple text docs generated out of a genealogical
database of which I don't fully understand the workings - I just use
the results.)
Advice cheerfully accepted - on or off list.
Thanks
