POSITION: Electronic Resources/Web Development Librarian 

APPOINTMENT RANK AND SALARY: Appointment at the rank of Librarian I or II. 
Minimum salary; Librarian I $30,000, Librarian II $31,500.  Rank and Salary depend on
qualifications and experience.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:    In a newly reorganized structure, the Gelman Library seeks a
librarian with systems and technical skills to become a member of two organizational Groups. 
As a member of the Electronic Resources Group,  this position will participate in the planning
and implementation of a broad range of electronic resources and in the management of related 
technical, access, and end user issues.  This Group also maintains overall responsibility for
planning  public computer services and coordinates with Gelman Technical Support  and with the
Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC).  WRLC provides support for the Voyager
Integrated Library System.  This position will be a Voyager client support specialist within
Gelman.  

The position also has a key role in the Web Development Group.  Gelman has made a significant
commitment to develop and maintain its Web site as a major channel for delivery of library
services and resources.   While working with the Group on overall Web design and content
development, this position will have principal responsibility for technical issues, including
exploring emerging Web technologies and, in the future, participation in maintaining a Gelman
Library based Web server.

Serves on library and University committees. Reports to the Electronic Resources Group Leader.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: ALA accredited MLS; excellent oral and written
communication skills; experience with and the demonstrated ability to learn the hardware and 
software needed to successfully contribute to electronic resources and web development; ability
to troubleshoot hardware, software and network problems; experience using electronic resources; 
demonstrated skill in use of Web authoring tools, scripting and mark-up languages; experience in
web design and production; understanding of the role of the Web in an large academic library;
ability to work effectively with co-workers in a collaborative organization; flexibility in a rapidly
changing environment. 

QUALIFICATIONS  DESIRED: Information technology or systems experience in an
academic library environment; expertise in developing and implementing electronic projects in a
collaborative environment;  knowledge of current and emerging technologies and their potential
implications and opportunities for academic libraries;  knowledge of a variety of web
development software such as  CGI,  JavaScript, and Cold Fusion; experience with LANs and
network operating systems; experience with installation and maintenance of CD ROM databases.
