Hello!
For web site creation and management on the Macintosh, there is no finer
tool than GoLive CyberStudio 3.1 Professional Edition. You can take a look
at the site I've created with GoLive at http://www.rowland.org/. And no, I
am not paid by GoLive to sing their praises. :-) I have used such
programs as Netscape Gold, Adobe PageMill, Microsoft FrontPage and
CyberStudio is by far superior to them all.
GoLive is great in that it is a WYSIWYG editor, so you don't have to know a
lot of HTML to use it. However, if you want to code by hand, you can. You
have control over the code it writes as well. It will write JavaScripts
and actions for you, you can create Cascading Style Sheets, and it uses a
"grid" for exact placement of images and text that is cross-browser. It
has wonderful site management aspects that range from checking for dead
links automatically to viewing your site graphically to changing elements
(like background color or a navigation bar) on all your pages in a few
steps and more.
There are two versions of CyberStudio - the Personal and Professional
Edition. They are the same except that the Professional Edition has the
JavaScripting, CSS, DHTML, and other "advanced" features. It is well worth
the higher price. They have educational pricing for libraries, so it
really is reasonable. Right now they are having a special where you can
mail in your copy of PageMill (or any other web authoring tool) and get the
Personal edition for the price of postage. You can then upgrade that to
the Professional edition.
You can get more information about it at their web site
http://www.golive.com. Their tech support guys are wonderful (you get
*free* support for as long as you use the product!) if you ever have
problems. MacWorld (May 1998) and MacWeek have both done reviews of the
program and I know other magazines have as well. So don't just take my
word for it.
Hope this helps!
