POSITION TITLE: Library Supervisor II (Information Services and Assistant Branch 
Manager)

POSITION NUMBER:  651

LOCATION:  Independence Regional Library
                Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County

STARTING SALARY RANGE:  $31,930 - $39,912

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:  Responsible for overall organization, management
and delivery of library reference and information services utilizing print and
electronic resources.  Responsibilities include planning, implementing and 
managing the provision of reference assistance, collection development,
overseeing computer resources in a department serving children, young adults
and adults. Strong leadership and team-building skills needed for supervision 
and training of staff of 9 which includes 4 Information Specialists, 1 Automation 
Support Coordinator, Manager of Youth Services and 3 Youth Specialists.
Also serves as Assistant Branch Manager.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:  ALA MLS.  Minimum of four year relevant and 
successful library experience preferred, with 2 years at management or 
supervisor level. Candidate should have a strong commitment to public
service and teamwork, thorough knowledge of print and electronic resources,
excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and
demonstrated ability to lead an information services department.

WORK SCHEDULE:  40 hours per week on rotating schedule including
nights and weekends.

DESCRIPTION OF LIBRARY:  Independence Regional Library serves the 
eastern quadrant of Mecklenburg County in Charlotte, North Carolina.
It is one of five regional libraries in the county.  The library is 18,000 sq.ft
and has a collection of 80,000 books, circulating CD ROMs, CDs and books
on tape.  44 PCs and 10 Dynix terminals are available for patron use. Please
