I am trying to encourage colleagues to use HTML grammar checkers
precisely because it is so easy to make the jump from "it looks fine
in Netscape (on this PC, with this version of Windows 3.11 and my
choice of fonts, etc.)" to "it's not going to make a lick of difference."
We've seen, as has been pointed out in this thread before, code that
looked fine turn to mush when the browser came out with a new
edition. I tell my workshop participants to code the content
consistently, so that the pages will look good, albeit different, when
handed over to the next generation of browsers. It may not be sexy,
but following the rules will produce pages that don't turn into a
nightmare revision task next year.
