2 Web Developer Positions at Mississippi State University Libraries

Mississippi State University Libraries has two open web development positions.

Web Services Specialist (https://www.jobs.msstate.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=185824):
Duties

·         Maintains existing and creates new web applications including database programming, multimedia development and web editing;

·         assists the Library Web Sites Manager with concept design, content delivery and exploring/recommending emerging technologies and services that will benefit the library program;

·         provides technical support, training and development for a variety of existing applications (Student Time Clock, Virtual Reference application, MAGNOLIA, Book Orders Online, Microsoft SharePoint);

·         Develops and maintains mobile web applications;

·         works with Library Web Team to ensure appropriate web site ADA compliance;

·         supervises student workers and manages student payroll for Web Services team;

·         tracks, analyzes and reports on current web usage statistics;

·         performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

·         Bachelor's Degree in a related field;

·         one year related experience in maintaining and developing web-related applications.
Preferred Qualifications

·         .NET experience and experience working in an academic library environment;

·         experience with maintaining and deploying virtual servers within VM Ware;

·         working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint Services and active directory;

·         MacOS and Linux experience or any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education training approved by the Human Resources Department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·         Demonstrated experience with web design and related software (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office) and programming experience using HTML, CSS, PHP, ASP, Perl and JavaScript;

·         experience with various database systems including MySQL and Microsoft SQL;

·         must be familiar with Internet protocols, web-based authentication methods and proxy servers in order to manage the site and maintain a high level of security for various databases and websites;

·         understanding of web standards and accessibility as defined by the W3C;

·         strong interpersonal communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.


User Experience Specialist (https://www.jobs.msstate.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=185743):
Duties

·         Designs, implements and maintains user interfaces and locally developed applications as well as providing assistance in the ongoing support and integration of 3rd party applications;

·         promotes, and takes part in, a process that provides for thorough and documented concept analysis and web development project pre-planning;

·         provides technical support, and training for a variety of existing applications;

·         develops documentation for projects to assist with cross-training and continuity;

·         provides support for web content management systems (CMS) based on differing programming and scripting languages;

·         provides leadership in the ongoing assessment of the Libraries interfaces by analyzing web analytics;

·         conducting user research/usability studies and accessibility audits. This includes not only conducting studies but also analyzing results, identifying trends, developing recommendations and creating reports;

·         collects, analyzes and communicates website assessment findings to provide data for planning and decision-making;

·         assists in developing the scope, plan and management of multiple projects;

·         supervises Library Student Assistants;

·         provides training to Library faculty and staff as needed;

·         participates in various Library committees and attends/presents at professional conferences;

·         performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

·         Bachelor's degree in a related field;

·         two (2) years of related experience;

·         demonstrated experience with user-centered web design principles;

·         proficiency with graphic and web design software including Adobe Creative Suite and programming code including HTML, CSS.
Preferred Qualifications

·         MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution;

·         knowledge of digital archival software, including CONTENTdm;

·         experience working in an academic library.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·         Demonstrated experience with user-centered web design principles;

·         experience creating concept designs, wire-frame and mock-ups;

·         experience applying web and accessibility standards;

·         excellent organizational, interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills;

·         excellent oral and written communication skills;

·         ability to integrate feedback from committees and co-workers;

·         ability to work in groups and independently;

·         ability to work out complicated issues.
