Job Purpose:
The Library Systems Officer will provide assistance to the Head, Library Systems and Library Systems Specialist on all issues related to Millennium/Sierra Database. This position is required to provide support in high level of complex technical issues, independence, coordination and problem solving related to teaching and learning technologies.

Key Result Areas


Ø  Provide regular support with day to day operation of Millennium/Sierra database.

Ø  Install Millennium/Sierra client on staff and other required workstations.

Ø  Assist in the planning and coordination of data migration between systems.

Ø  Assist to analyze and prepare bibliographical data for conversion to MARC21 format and/or related standards such as MARC, AACR2, OCLC, Dublin Core, EAD, NIH and other Metadata Standards

Ø  Provide support for the Millennium/Sierra Arabic interface

Ø  Assist with the Archival repository database based on open source technology

Ø  Contribute to existing and new digitization projects

Ø  Provide Library database Training to Library staff as required

Ø  Maintain statistics and prepare reports as required

Ø  Develop and  update and keep documentation on policies and procedures

Ø  Provide assistance in preparing Risk Assessment processes

Ø  Provide assistance in the preparation of Change Management plan for the IT team

Ø  Liaise with external and internal team

Ø  Provide assistance in configuration and customization of asistive technology software to provide high level technical support to the Public services team

Ø  Keep abreast of developments, trends and issues in areas of responsibility

Ø  Participate in team work and committees as needed

Ø  Perform miscellaneous duties and conduct special projects as assigned

Ø  Familiarize, understand and implement QF health, safety, and environment policy, procedures, legal regulations and objectives applicable to areas of responsibility.

Ø  Ensures coordination with HSE department in implementing, monitoring and reviewing of HSE performance to ensure work under his/her control is performed in a safe, healthy and environmentally sound manner.

Job Requirements

Ø  Bachelor's Degree in Library Sciences and/or Information Studies, Information science (or equivalent)

Ø  4+ years of working experience with Millennium or any other library management system

Ø  Working Knowledge of MARC 21 and other international Library and archive related METADATA Standards.

Ø  Working knowledge of Access database, SQL Language, data query and analysis tool

Ø  Working knowledge of Solr and Luciene indexing preferable

Ø  Experience of working in  UNIX, Linux, Apache and experience working with ORACLE SPARC servers with Solaris OS

Ø  Experience with Unix, Perl, Java, Javascript, MySQL, and C++

Ø  Experience in some or all of the following: Apache, IIS, JBoss/J2EE Application Servers, Tomcat, MySQL.

Ø  Sound working experience of open source digital repositories like Fedora, DSpace or Islandora, preferable

Ø  Working with relational databases such as MySQL or Postgresql.

Ø  Experience with digital library standards, such as, Dublin Core, MARC, METS, EAD, and OAI-PMH.

Ø  Experience with database and system design concepts.

Ø  Experience of integrating multimedia on the web.

Ø  Experience working with Mobile technology

Ø  Excellent testing and troubleshooting capabilities.

Ø  Excellent time management and verbal and written communication skills.
