The International Food Policy Research Institute is seeking for a Taxonomies and Ontologies Intern.

Job Summary:

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a KM Taxonomies and Ontologies Intern for its CKM Division. This is a 3 month, exempt, fixed term based in Washington DC.
The internship involves a 3-month intensive effort to develop a comprehensive Agricultural Technology Ontology that will cover all CGIAR's research portfolio, AGROVOC's high-level terms.

Essential Duties:


  *   Extract agricultural technologies from various documents.
  *   Search through existing ontologies for relevant terms.
  *   Work with the team to structure findings.
  *   Expand and develop Agricultural Technology ontology.
  *   Provide documentation.

Required Qualifications:


  *   Degree in Informatics related field (level- masters/bachelors/in progress?)
  *   Familiarity with:
     *   Terminologies used in agricultural research and development area
     *   Controlled vocabularies, metadata standards and ontologies (especially AGROVOC)
     *   Semantic Web (RDF)
  *   Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  *   Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

Semantic Web tools (Protégé)
