Hi,

You could also consider the Central Authentication System (CAS), http://www.jasig.org/cas, sponsored by the Jasig consortium of educational institutions.  It's an open source project.  We are looking at consolidating some of our campus LDAP and SSO authentication services with CAS.  It works with Ezproxy and a lot of library automation products, such as those from Ex Libris.

I'm not quite sure what you are searching exactly for, but it sounds to me as if you are searching for a single sign on service like Shibboleth?
