books on data science or "Big Data"

Not a book, and not primarily technical, but Harvard Business Review had an interesting "big data"/data science-themed issue a few months ago.   http://hbr.org/archive-toc/BR1210

It's a good review of the practical difficulties of making good use of big data:  (1) The field is new. The credentials and standards of a mature field are lacking, so capable and creative data scientists are few in number, and are therefore hard to identify, recruit, use effectively and retain ; (2) Managers and leaders don't know why or how to effectively use big data.

Data mining methods for the content analyst : an introduction to the computational analysis of content / Kalev Hannes Leetaru.

Managing Research Data (Pryor ed) from facet

Facilitating Access to the web of data  (Stuart) also from Facet



O'Reilly has some stuff though I've not had a chance to explore deeply into that.
