Open source video editing software

Can anyone recommend open source video editing software to do simple things
like delete a few seconds of video, combine two clips, add a title screen,
etc?

I don't want to use Windows Movie Maker, because I'm working with mp4, and
it won't work with that file, so I will have to keep converting formats to
do simple edits.
