Batch conversion of TIFF to JPG and GIF files

We don't convert anymore, and store only the (archival) TIF image. The  
conversion, scaling to the users screen and image enhancement is done  
by our digilib-server. So, the machine is doing the batch conversion  
on the fly.
A small drawback is, that we need tomcat or jetty for this service. A  
nightly restart frees the RAM, as java consumes a lot of RAM.
