In the case of both Koha and Evergreen, the catalog doesn't have to be
visible to everybody.  The catalogs are web-based, but there's nothing
preventing access to the catalogs being restricted to an intranet --
or for that matter, nothing preventing them from being run on one's PC
or laptop.
