Director of Collections
JMU Libraries & Educational Technologies seeks an innovative, collaborative and service-oriented professional to serve as Director of Collections.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides leadership for all aspects of development, management, promotion and preservation of library collections and scholarly content. Articulates a user-centered collection vision to meet current and emerging information needs and new models of collection / content building and delivery. Assesses collections for quality, comprehensiveness, usage and applies data analysis to inform decision-making. Reports to the Associate Dean for Collections and Technical Services. Supervises the Special Collections Librarian, Preservation Officer and classified and wage staff.

Develops policies and procedures for management and preservation of tangible collections in 5 library facilities as well as for extensive digital and library-curated collections. Library facilities include: Carrier Library which serves programs in the social sciences, humanities and arts, Rose Library, which serves programs in the sciences, the Music Library, Special Collections and the Educational Technology Media Center. Coordinates and guides the collection activities of librarians who serve as liaisons to academic departments. Leads the library's Collection Development Committee, the body approving all resources with ongoing costs.

Participates on the departmental leadership team and on library and university committees as appropriate. Serves as a standing member of the L&ET Management Council and assists with innovation, planning, management and governance. Serves as a liaison librarian to an academic department with responsibilities for collection management and information literacy initiatives.

As a member of a university-wide faculty, participates in system-wide initiatives, committees, and task forces, and demonstrates commitment to scholarly and professional services. Faculty status requires potential to meet standards for promotion and tenure set forth in the Libraries' Professional Development Document, http://www.lib.jmu.edu/employment/pdd.doc.
Qualifications include ALA Accredited MLS and minimum of 3-5 years professional experience in building and managing library collections and content. Experience with current and emerging technologies and their application to knowledge management.  Strong service orientation.  Knowledge of collection management, vendor relations, publishing trends, preservation, archives and digitization practices.
