Locking down IE on public computers

I did check the archive before posting because I figured someone else had a similar problem, but that thread is more for time limits and blocking certain URLs. We have a solution for our catalog computers that keeps patrons only within the catalog, and we don't have time restrictions on the public Internets. I did get a few ideas from that thread, but a lot of it went over my head and I thought I'd ask my specific question instead of trying to tailor someone else's problem to mine.

Have a look at the archives. There's a long thread back on Dec 8th of 2011 on this very subject.....

Did you have a look into the Kiosk Mode? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/154780/en-us it works in the newer versions as well. Also other browsers have a Kiosk mode ( http://www.opera.com/support/mastering/kiosk/ , FireFox R-Kiosk or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiosk_software ) other buzz words are Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit or Windows SteadyState and Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK)

We are using Public Web Browser but are looking to switch to Internet Explorer. However, we need a way to lock down certain functions so patrons can't make too many changes to it. Any suggestions for either hiding the menus or locking down the Tools menu and maybe Favorites and also disabling the ability to download and install toolbars?

We do have Fortres, but they don't lock down anything inside the browser. The IT guy there suggested using Microsoft Policies, but I'm having a hard time searching the Microsoft website because there's so much information there and I don't really know what I'm looking for. Any suggestions here would be helpful as well.

Thanks!
