Assistant/Associate Librarian - Web Services & Emerging Tech Librarian
Kimbel Library at Coastal Carolina University seeks a creative, innovative, user-oriented technologist to join a technology team committed to providing world-class web services to our academic community. Reporting to the Head of Library Technology and Systems, this twelve month, tenure-track position at either the assistant or associate level, will serve as the primary developer and administrator for the Library website, web applications, social media, and mobile interfaces, and will coordinate and oversee ongoing development of the Library's website and web services.
The successful candidate will incorporate appropriate design principles, information architectures, coding standards, and emerging technologies in the library's various online web-based systems and projects, will share in providing leadership and responsibilities in the identification, assessment, and implementation of emerging technologies that further the library's mission and increase and enhance access to library resources and services. This position will conduct usability testing and focus groups to assess the effectiveness of these services, will also serve as liaison to academic departments, and is expected to work collegially with the library and university community.
Required Qualifications include: MLIS degree or equivalent from an ALA-accredited school; proficiency in web authoring, information presentation, organization and design, with demonstrated experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and Dreamweaver; demonstrated experience using Photoshop; demonstrated experience in developing Web applications, utilizing PHP, or ASP. NET; demonstrated experience using databases such as SQL, MySQL, or Access; evidence of interest and ability in applying innovative technologies to enhance library services, with a strong understanding of accessibility and usability issues; excellent oral and written communication skills with a high degree of computer literacy; ability to work independently, managing a complex workload in a timely and effective manner, with minimum supervision; and ability and interest in fulfilling tenure and promotion requirements for job performance, scholarship, professional development, and service.
Preferred Qualifications include: 2-3 years of demonstrated experience developing web sites and web applications in an academic library setting; familiarity with open source applications, and experience successfully managing a variety of library-related computer systems and applications such as Drupal, WordPress, Blogger, etc.; familiarity with research, design, and implementation of library technology initiatives such as online learning resources, Web 2.0 applications, wikis, blogs, and other innovative technology projects; familiarity with graphic design principles; and experience with Innovative Interfaces ILS, ILLiad, and EZproxy.
Coastal Carolina University is a public mid-sized, comprehensive liberal arts-oriented institution.
