Sharon,
Thank you for sharing. I have used both Google Docs and Zoho, and I think they are great for storage. Perhaps I will suggest a way to promote these storage solutions.
Sincerely,
Kate Slavinski

Subject: Re: [WEB4LIB] Online Storage
Kate, I don't currently, but I was working at an academic library a couple of years ago when I saw a student lose about 5 hours of work when the computers shutdown early. (I guess the library's clocks ran slower than the server's system clock.) They were set up to wipe any user documents on shutdown, and there was no recovery possible.
If I were working in a public or academic library today, I would promote online office apps and storage--Google Docs and Zoho in particular. Microsoft also offers an online office suite, but I haven't used it much. Adobe has a beautiful word processor called Buzzword, and they're adding spreadsheets and presentations, though they haven't been promoting it much yet.

I work in an academic library and we recently added computers with a "thaw space." We haven't had any problems yet with patrons forgetting to save information that we know of, but I was wondering if any libraries promote patrons to use online storage, such as Google docs or Drop Box. If so, do your patrons seem to find these suggestions helpful?
