Phillip,
Thank you for sharing your experiences. It sounds like your library has a good system for handling complaints.

Hello,
At this public library we have been filtering the children’s computers for nearly 15 years. In that time there have only been two or three comments from parents about the filters. They all involved parents complaining their child was able to access objectionable content (nudity or sexual content) which they thought the filters should have blocked. Slightly more often a child will complain that something they want access to is blocked. Either way we review the site concerned and either block it, unblock it, or leave it however it was depending on how the content relates to our policy. Hasn’t been a big deal for us.

Subject: [WEB4LIB] Children's Protective Internet Act
I was recently writing a collection development policy as an assignment for my MLS about collection development policies in elementary schools. I included a challenged materials request form, but I was wondering how children's librarians handle parents' concerns over the Children's Protective Internet Act (CPIA) (i.e. Do the parents ever challenge the effectiveness of the internet filters?).
Thank you for your assistance,
Sincerely,
