Library Web Apps and Mobile Apps

Actually, in Anaheim's case, we are pursuing a phone app for iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone. The idea is that the under 30 crowd is using their cell phone to communicate with the library, so we need to have apps available for them.

Dear Michael and Precious,
Pls explain: by mobile apps. we are discussing androids, tablets and iPads are we? In any case since Precious mentioned mobile libs. (as in buses and vans, I presume), we do have those as well, at least one bus for each district in my state of Sabah. They are very well-used as we service the rural schools which have no other means of access to any othe library services. We also have mobile vans that provide internet access, therefore these are strictly mobile cybercafe. They are well-equiped with 10 laptops and courses on how to access the internet and search strategies are given.

Perhaps, someone could clarify more about the mobile applications or lib web apps. We are really keen on those too.

Dear all

I am a reference librarian at The Presidency office, South Africa. Presidency library is a special library caterer for government employees who have special needs related to socio-political issues, legal, media, African leaders, government. I feel honored to be in one of your knowledge sharing groups.

Thank you for bringing that question Michael. In the next financial year, implementing mobile library will be one of my 2012 projects. This will enable my clients /users to access the catalogue, electronic resources through their mobile phones since they are travelling a lot.

Can anyone who has already used that service share how to go about implementing it, the experiences and challenges.

The Best, always

Precious

Greetings to all,

I was curious if anyone has had experience with their library providing mobile apps, particularly web apps, for library patrons and would like to share their experiences? What mobile apps does your library provide and is there any response from the patrons (i.e. do they use the services)? Is there any real demand for such services, and is it worthwhile do you think to pursue providing such services? Please feel free to e-mail me instead of posting to the list. Thanks in advance!
