The IU Bloomington Libraries are seeking an innovative and service oriented individual for the position of E-Science Librarian at the Indiana University Bloomington Libraries. This position will be a member of the Libraries' Science Department and will also serve as an active member of the Libraries' Science Discipline Focused Working Group.

Founded in 1820, Indiana University-Bloomington has grown from a small state seminary into the flagship campus of a great public university with over 42,000 students and almost 3,000 faculty. The Indiana University Bloomington Libraries (http://www.libraries.iub.edu) are among the leading academic research library systems in North America, having recently been named the top university library by the Association of College and Research Libraries.  The IUB Libraries provide strong collections, quality service and instructional programs, and leadership in the application of information technologies. The IU Libraries system consists of eighteen libraries on the Bloomington campus, five libraries in Indianapolis, and a library at each of the other six campuses across the state. The collections support every academic discipline on campus and include more than 6.6 million books, journals, maps, films, and audio/visual materials in over 900 languages.  Users can access more than 400 databases, 43,000 electronic journals, and 224,000 electronic books, as well as locally developed digital content.

The IUB Libraries are active members of regional and national associations and consortia including the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), the Digital Library Federation (DLF), and is a founding member of HathiTrust, a shared digital repository.   IU is the principle investigator for Kuali Open Library Environment (OLÉ) and is working with academic library partners to develop a next generation open source library management system.


The IU Bloomington Libraries collaborate extensively with University Information Technology Services (UITS) Research Technologies, UITS Enterprise Software, and the Data to Insight Center within the Pervasive Technology Institute. Primary areas of collaboration include shared infrastructure for data curation and mass storage for projects and services such as IU ScholarWorks, the Digital Library Program, and HathiTrust and shared virtual computing infrastructure known as the IU Intelligent Infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Head of the IU Bloomington Libraries Science Department, the E-Science Librarian will:

·         Provide reference and select and manage collections in all formats for assigned subjects

·         Work with others to oversee collection of digital data sets

·         Initiate services such as workshops, course-integrated instruction, and other outreach efforts to  develop and promote the use of collections

·         Work with colleagues in digital publishing to develop and promote digital services  and the diverse libraries' resources, many of which are unique

·         Grow and sustain close relationships with faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates in the assigned and related academic disciplines to ensure the highest and most effective level of library support for their research, teaching, and learning

·         Maintain awareness of tools and methodologies for data-driven research

·         Develop data management plans for grant applications with faculty

·         Actively participate in university-wide initiatives to develop and design sustainable services and infrastructure to enable faculty and students to preserve and make available their research data

·         Partner with those both internal (Digital Library Program and  IUScholarWorks) and external (UITS Research Technologies and the Data to Insight Center) to the Libraries in instantiating a data-publishing model that leverages IUScholarWorks and university-wide mass storage resources to provide a data curation resource to IU faculty

·         Assist in building data management profiles for IU faculty that will be used to shape workflow for data curation ingest and management

·         Be involved in the planning and preparation of a secure data facility to be housed in the IU Research Commons

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:

·         ALA accredited master's degree in library or information science or related degree

·         Proven ability to effectively lead, manage, and deliver on multiple projects

·         Demonstrated subject knowledge and experience in the sciences

·         Demonstrated knowledge of issues and technical challenges related to the use and archiving of digital data

·         Proven familiarity with applications that support data curation and management

·         Strong commitment to public service

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills

·         Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with diverse population of faculty, students, and academic colleagues

  *   Must be able to meet the requirements of a tenure-track librarian position

Preferred:

·         Second advanced degree in science discipline.

·         Three to five years experience as a professional librarian.
