As a matter of interest, there is a FOSS[1] alternative to Twitter at
http://identi.ca
The community is smaller than twitter and tends to focus on more
technical/techie topics (though not exclusively). There are also
mechanisms to propogate tweets to Identica (where they are referred to
as 'dents' ;-) and possibly vice versa
If you have any interest in supporting FOSS, I highly recommend having a
look at Identica.
