I think Cal Poly has done a good job, particularly given the limitations of some of the systems (e.g., their catalog) they are working with. Marya Figueroa is the designer there.

So:

Website: http://lib.calpoly.edu/
Catalog: http://poetry.lib.calpoly.edu/
Metasearch: http://xerxes.calstate.edu/slo/
Link resolver: http://sfx.calstate.edu:9003/cpslo?sid=Entrez:PubMed&id=pmid:17703411
Guides: http://libguides.calpoly.edu/
ILL: http://illiad.lib.calpoly.edu/illiad/illiad.dll

. . . and a number of smaller application throughout their site.

No, I completely agree. I stress it because it tends to be the part
that needs the most improving. But the catalog is generally not under
the control of the library's web group anyway.

The multiplicity of different resources invites a ransom-note result.
Has anyone seen a library that managed to make all the different
solutions look like they're part of the same, organic whole?
