If you don't know your users' screen dimensions, Google Analytics will be more than happy to show you that and more.

I'd start with this:

Reconsider the assumptions in that design (start by borrowing someone's
1920x1200 widescreen laptop.  Do you know your users' screen dimensions?).
Then you might handle the overlapping images with CSS positioning and the
z-index property.
