[Web4lib] Are e-mail discussion lists still relevant?

Two cents from a new librarian.....

I agree that the simple fact that this discussion, which has been one of the
longer threads in my recent memory, is proof that listservs still are a
useful, functioning way of disseminating information and thoughts on various
topics amogst your peers?

I read a couple blogs a day and subscribe to a couple rss feeds, but at the
end of the day, I have to go to my email to get emails from students and my
fellow librarians where I work, so why not also go there to get information
from members of my profession as well? I would rather delete a couple
emails than have to fight through various pages and blogs to get the same
information. As I seem to remember some one else in the thread saying, if
it isn't broke, why fix it? Blogs, wikis, rss, twitter, etc. all have their
places, but the simplest, most easy way to converse with an entire body of
practionioners still seems to me to be the listserv...
