The University of Tennessee Libraries invites applications and 
nominations for the position of Head, Library Technology Services (LTS). 
An experienced, innovative, and visionary leader, the successful 
candidate will provide oversight and programmatic guidance for 4 faculty 
and approximately 16 staff responsible for information technology and 
digital initiatives at the university's flagship campus.   LTS supports 
a wide range of digital initiatives, library web development, and staff 
desktop support.   LTS also manages several systems, including Aleph, 
SFX, EZProxy, MetaLib, ILLiad, and LOCKSS.

 

Reporting to the Executive Associate Dean, the ideal candidate possesses 
in-depth knowledge of the practices and the trends of technologies in 
libraries. He/she serves as an effective advocate for the libraries in 
building and sustaining collaborative relationships with a variety of 
constituencies. He/she provides leadership in implementing new systems 
that serve and support faculty, staff, and students. Currently, the 
Libraries is investigating the purchase and implementation of additional 
systems, upgrades, and enhancements, including a next-generation 
catalog, digital repository, and electronic resource management 
system.   As a member of the Library Council, the Head, Library 
Technology Services plays important roles in strategic planning and 
budgeting, leading projects, and recommending new services. He/she 
represents the Libraries in appropriate professional activities and 
participates in national organizations.

 

 

*_Required Qualifications:_*  ALA-accredited master's degree in library 
or information science; minimum of 5 years progressively responsible 
experience and proven leadership with information technology in an 
academic research library. Documented record of collaboration and 
ability to thrive in a future-oriented environment; evidence of 
successful supervisory experience; demonstrated familiarity with 
emerging technologies; commitment to service, excellence, and 
innovation; excellent communication, organizational, and management 
skills; strong analytical and decision making skills; evidence of 
scholarly activity sufficient for appointment at the associate professor 
rank and the ability to meet tenure requirements.

 

*_Preferred Qualifications:_*  Record of implementing emerging 
technologies in an academic research library; experience managing 
digital projects, including digital preservation and data archiving; 
experience with Aleph, SFX, Metalib, and/or Illiad.

*_Salary and Benefits:_*__

Appointment at rank of Associate Professor or Professor.  Salary: 
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position includes 
an administrative stipend.  Faculty rank and status; twelve-month, 
tenure-track appointment. Library faculty must meet University 
requirements for promotion and tenure. Excellent benefits include 24 
annual leave days; choice of state retirement plan or TIAA/CREF with 
nonrefundable contributions paid for the employee by the University; 
optional group health and life insurance plans. Tuition remission is 
available for all university employees; partial undergraduate tuition 
remission is available to dependent children and spouses of UT employees.
