LAC seeks an Information Specialist/Web Newsletter Editor to assist with
implementing Web 2.0 tools (blogs, wikis, RSS) for communicating and
interacting with a government agency research community, including
promoting awareness of information products and services and educating
the community on publishing opportunities, knowledge management, and
research discovery. This is a 4-month project in Gaithersburg , MD.
Responsibilities
* Create an operating replacement for library's monthly
newsletter, currently distributed in print and electronically, using Web
2.0 tools to deliver content.
* Specific activities may include:
* Participate on team tasked with exploring blog software
& hosting; options and defining workflows & review/approval policies;
* Upgrade existing wiki to latest version of MediaWiki, or
install and deploy Twiki software;
* Train information services staff on use of wiki;
* Implement/deploy blog software, and train staff on
authoring and editing of blog posts, and use of linking and web
syndication features;
* Work with information services staff to establish
workflows, and policies etc.;
* Prepare documentation that includes logistics, workflow
and staff training to ensure smooth operation beyond initial
implementation.
Qualifications
* MLS/MIS with emphasis on Web 2.0 applications
* Advanced student or new graduate will be considered;
* Knowledge/experience with Windows environment;
* Experience with wiki software, such as MediaWiki or Twiki;
* Experience with proprietary or open source blog software, or
hosted software services;
* Some knowledge of PHP, MySQL or Perl.
