Hey Fred,
It's not publicly available yet, so I don't have a link for you, but OCLC is developing the WorldCat API (an SRU/OpenSearch interface to Worldcat) and many other web services that I think can meet your needs.
You might want to check back at the OCLC website a bit later this year as more info on that becomes available.

Thanks everyone for replying.
While the information was good, what I was really hoping for was links
to services that offer XML feeds (web services) that give book
details...
such as LoC's SRU/SRW, Amazon's API, Google Books API, etc...
I'm trying to programmatically search the resources and deliver the
"best" information available that way to the patron.
an Onix service would be nice, but even if there was there's limited
adaptation by publishers and, of course, only contains details of
"active" titles...
And, though I never mentioned it, we are hoping to access something
that isn't aiming to make our display a commercial portal for their
sales...
