Web Application Developer (Information Technology Professional II)

Health Sciences Library, Anschutz Medical Campus 
University of Colorado Denver

The Health Sciences Library, University of Colorado Denver has an
opening for a full-time Web Application Developer. The Web Application
Developer provides support for existing web applications and databases
and design new applications as needed. The developer will work closely
with the Online Services Librarian, the HSL I.T. Unit and other library
staff in cooperative, pleasant, participatory surroundings. 

Location: The Health Sciences Library is a brand new building situated
in the heart of Anschutz Medical Campus, University of Colorado Denver.

Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or
university with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information
Systems or a closely related field, AND two years of professional
information technology experience designing and building web
applications in a production environment (this experience must include a
solid understanding of browser compatibility issues, site architecture
best practices, and various standards applicable to Web authoring).

Substitution: A combination of professional work experience in
information technology which included designing and building web
applications in a production environment may be substituted on a
year-for-year basis for the bachelor's degree.  

Job Responsibilities: The Web Application Developer provides support for
existing web applications in the Health Sciences Library and designs new
applications as needed. Responsibilities include needs assessment,
system design, and the creation, documentation, and debugging of code.
Further responsibilities include testing, deployment, and
troubleshooting/maintenance of web applications. Maintains an authoring
environment for library staff members. Responsible for monitoring
security best practices, and managing and implementing web application
software upgrades and patches. Plans against various disaster scenarios,
and creates backup and recovery procedures for web applications. In
addition, the developer is called upon to provide some end-user support
for library web applications, including those created by or maintained
at the library.

Preferred Qualifications:
*Expert level experience with CSS and the ability to integrate and
troubleshoot PHP 5.x and backend databases.
*Expert proficiency and production experience in database design, SQL
query construction and MySQL database administration.
*Knowledgeable and familiar with web design for ADA requirements, strong
understanding of web and database server technology, Javascript and/or
other web scripting languages and administering website engines. 
*Proficiency in developing/debugging web applications Experience with
secure web applications.
*Experience integrating web applications with external systems via Ajax,
XML, Web Services and/or API.
*Able to function in a mixed Windows and Linux server environment VMWare
Ubuntu or Debian Linux administration. Unix or Linux scripting
experience.
*Apache configuration and administration skills.
*Experience with usability testing
*Relational database administration ability.
*Strong English written/verbal communication with the ability to write
clear, maintainable, well-documented code. 
*Ability to learn new technologies on the job as organizational strategy
dictates.
*Ability to work in a tightly-knit team environment with ongoing
collaboration on various interconnecting projects.
*Must be comfortable making design decisions independently as well as
within a team framework.
*Must be a confident self-starter with tenacity, curiosity, and a
penchant for detail.
*Knowledge of and experience with full application life-cycle
development. 
*Experience that demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication
skills and the ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse
backgrounds which includes experience working with faculty, staff and
students in a higher education environment.
