Is there anything more you can give us than a Windows 98 PC? Do you  
have the original manual that shipped with the hardware handy. I am  
assuming otherwise that you computer only shipped with a phone modem  
and no ethernet. If that is the case then you would need to get a  
ethernet adaptor that you can plug into your motherboard. (Here's  
where the manual comes handy for recommendations)

You can always go to your computer manufacturer's website and see if  
they still have it (the manual) available. The assumption here is  
that your motherboard will have expansion slots for the additional card.
