Reference/Information Literacy Librarian
Whitman College invites applications for the position of
Reference/Information Literacy Librarian. The Reference & Information
Literacy Librarian works closely with students, faculty and staff to aid and
instruct them in their library research by working at the Reference Desk
(including some nights and weekends), scheduling individual appointments,
teaching classes, and serving as a liaison to academic departments.
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the following:
Academic background or experience delivering library services in the social
sciences, ability to provide library instruction for an undergraduate
curriculum, experience with collection development, and interest in web-page
creation and maintenance. Strong candidates will be able to discuss the
implications of adopting new technologies, and how they can be leveraged to
move liberal arts college libraries forward.
The successful candidate will be flexible, enthusiastic to learn, creative,
and willing to embrace change. Required Qualifications: Master's degree
from an ALA-accredited program.
Whitman is a private, selective, non-sectarian, residential college of the
liberal arts and sciences with approximately 1500 students and 120 faculty.
Penrose Library has a strong service orientation, a team-orientated approach
to decision making, and provides excellent opportunities for professional

Review in the "Best College Library" category.
Whitman is located in Walla Walla, positioned in beautiful SE Washington
State. Walla Walla provides many opportunities for hiking, mountain biking,
skiing, and other outdoor activities. It is also recognized internationally
for its growing wine industry.
