Public Library Technology Interest Group: Small-MidSized Libraries
Facing Tech Challenges (Discussion/Q&A)
Sunday, June 24
8:00 - 10:00 a.m.
Convention Center, Room 309

Before you "crash and burn," join discussion leaders Scott Reinhart
(Assistant Director of Operations) and Bob Kuntz (I.T. Manager) from
Carroll County (Maryland) Public Library who will share tips and real
life stories about moving technology forward (no matter what the
starting point). Geared for mid-size to small libraries and library
systems who are struggling with the "next steps" in their technology
development, this session should prove beneficial and offers
opportunities to ask questions in a friendly and informal setting. This
discussion is sponsored by LITA's new Public Library Technology Interest
Group bright and early on Sunday morning, June 24th, 8 - 10 a.m. at the
Convention Center, Room 309.

Scott Reinhart began his career as an elementary school media
specialist. After four years, he "had it" with the public schools. He
directed the University of Baltimore's Instructional Technology Center,
and the Carroll Frederick Audio Visual Cooperative, prior to his current
job as Assistant Director of Operations overseeing "all the cool stuff"
at Carroll County (MD) Public Library. Scott was the lead person for
the implementation of the MPower statewide card and is helping with the
development and testing of the new Marina upgrade. Current
responsibilities include IT, facilities, technical services, vehicles,
delivery, etc.

Building the Next Generation Public Library Web Site with Drupal
Sunday, June 24
10:30 am - noon
Grand Hyatt - Constitution A
In 2005, Ann Arbor District Library unveiled its "3.0" website. Its use
of blogs, interactive commenting, and other "Web 2.0" functionality has
earned it considerable national attention. The software behind the site
is the open-source Drupal content management system (CMS). John Blyberg
will discuss AADL's decision to use Drupal and will show how Drupal can
be both a powerful CMS and agile development tool, and will address the
benefits of open-source projects by illustrating its impact on AADL's
development program.

Sponsored by the LITA Open Source Systems Interest Group and supported
by Public Library Technology Interest Group.
