Title:   REFERENCE LIBRARIAN/BIBLIOGRAPHER, Librarian I (LIB 286)

Responsibilities: 
Reports to the Science Collection Coordinator.  Participates in a full range of general reference and instructional activities, including desk, chat and electronic reference services that include evening and weekend hours.  Also participates in specialized reference and library instruction services, faculty liaison and selection of materials in agriculture and plant sciences. Provides instruction in the use of relevant print and electronic reference tools.  Contributes to technology-based initiatives and projects.  Participates in professional development and scholarly activities and serves on library and university committees as elected or assigned.  Other appropriate duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:  
Required: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program; course work or background in electronic reference tools; aptitude with technology; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff; ability to be flexible in a dynamic environment; preparation and commitment to conduct independent scholarship consistent with a librarian appointment; commitment to engage independently in continuing professional development.  Desired: strong interest in providing agriculture-related reference and instructional services.

Michigan State University Libraries serve more than 4,500 faculty, 34,000 undergraduates and 9,000 graduate and professional students on a park-like campus of over 5,000 acres.  The Main Library and 8 branch libraries have combined holdings of over 4.8 million volumes.  East Lansing is a community of approximately 50,000 located adjacent to Lansing, the state capital.

Compensation:  $46,000 minimum.  MSU provides generous fringe benefits.
