Reference and Electronic Resources Librarian
Fairfield University Library
Academic library invites applications from creative, flexible,
self-motivated librarians with strong public services commitment and a
vision and enthusiasm for the future of electronic technologies to join
collegial team. The successful candidate will be hired at the Librarian
I or Librarian II level depending on experience. The position may
include some evening and weekend hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides leadership in coordinating the Library's selection of
electronic resources. Monitors trends in e-publishing and emerging
technologies for the reference department, and recommends or implements
new initiatives as appropriate. Acts as the Library's representative to
its virtual reference service.
Provides Reference Desk coverage. Participates in the Library Liaison
program. Participates in the Library Instruction program.
REQUIREMENTS:
MLS from ALA accredited program. Two or more years professional academic
reference department experience. Demonstrated knowledge and
understanding of issues and practices related to e-resource use and
selection. Knowledge of trends and issues in emerging library
technologies. Familiarity and experience with web-based technologies.
Must be self-directed, well organized, and able to meet deadlines and
multiple demands. Demonstrated ability to communicate, both orally and
in writing, to a variety of audiences. Creative approach to the
development of new services; commitment to responsive and innovative
service is essential. Experience in planning and teaching user education
programs. 
Highly Desirable:
Science background; second Master's degree.

Fairfield University is a highly selective, independent, small
comprehensive Jesuit university located in a suburb 50 miles outside of
New York City. DiMenna-Nyselius Library has 330,000 volumes in a
recently expanded and renovated building.
