[Web4lib] e-Readers (electric paper)

The most extensive discussion of the Sony reader and other coming readers is
at mobileread,
http://www.mobileread.com/
The full discussion is probably more information than most reasonable people
would want, but getting the RSS feed of the top level page lets you keep up
with the news.

At this point the chief user frustrations seem to be file conversion (the
available readers support only a few formats and work best with their
proprietary formats; page-based formats - PDF - present special problems on
small screens) and Sony's e-book shop. Plus of course the ups and downs of
any new technology.

I have no personal experience with the Sony or the iLiad, but from what I've
heard I'd say the consensus is not now, but probably sooner than we might
have thought a year ago. One interesting rumor is that Amazon will offer a
$50 reader as a way of jumpstarting the market.
