Job Description:
A Production Coordinator is needed in the Center for Digital Projects at Joyner Library. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing workflow; overseeing the creation of digital reproductions of library and/or university material; coordinating the organization, description, and migration process of images and other digital media; researching, testing, documenting, and developing procedures; and utilizing student employees and equipment to achieve production goals within the Center for Digital Projects.
Candidates should possess the ability to work effectively with people in a constantly changing and sometimes multi-departmental team environment and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others. In addition, candidates should be comfortable supervising, training, and motivating student workers; have a full understanding of computer technology and how it relates to the online delivery of library material; and be familiar with the interaction of local area networks with software applications. Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail are necessary. Candidates should demonstrate initiative for acquiring new skills and possess problem-solving acumen. Experience in using multiple image formats and audio and video conversion in a production/database project management environment is needed. The ideal candidate will possess software knowledge and/or experience with Adobe Photoshop; OmniPage; Illustrator; Final Cut Pro or related video editing software; Quicktime VR or other VR software; XML editing software such as XMetaL, Stylus Studio, or NoteTabPro; XML stylesheet transformations and DTDs as they relate to EAD and TEI; relational databases such as MySQL; web indexing mechanisms; and the use of computer operating systems (DOS, Windows, Macintosh, UNIX) to coordinate the setup of application software that may interface with a server.
Preferred training and experience include classes or training in imaging techniques and software, supervisory experience, audio and video format conversion, relational databases, SQL, HTML, XML (including EAD and/or TEI), experience with metadata standards and practices, markup languages as they relate to digitization, and web authoring tools for this purpose (i.e., experience using Dreamweaver). Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school and two years of experience in the administration of a computer system similar to the one to be supported; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
