Actually the reason Google looks the way it does is because the two
founders didn't know much html/web design to jazz it up.
And that's what's good about it.

The thing I find amusing is that I wish Yahoo were still like that.
There's
about 10% of the current Yahoo that I find useful (the directory and
search
box). The rest is just ads, useless news and clutter. There's a reason
the
Google home page looks the way it does.
